The NS #3430, was the workhorse of Garrett Yard. However, one terrible derailing and the once dominate locomotive is now used for consists. Click on  picture to see the last run for 3430 is just a click away.

The EMD (Electro Motive Division) SD40-2 (pronounced SD40 "Dash 2") is a type of six-axle, 16-cylinder 3,000hp (though, in some cases 3,200hp and/or 3,300hp) diesel locomotive built from 1972 to 1986.

SD40T-2

This SD40T-2 is the first Rio Grande Locomotive  to our Fleet. It is a dummy locomotive used for consist. 

The "T" in "SD40T-2" stands for "tunnel motor," referring to the locomotive's design with improved cooling systems for mountainous areas, specifically for the SD40-2 model.

 This is an older manufactured Locomotive. But, the newest Locomotive to the Garrett Yard fleet. Most of this locomotives use is for local Operations.

The "GP" designation stood for "general purpose", while the "7" had no meaning other than matching the EMD F7 cab unit then in production.

GP-40

This GP-40 has been the workhorse for all outbound and Inbound Locals. With the addition of The CSX Dash-8 and dash-8 B #5943,  The #3057 will be helping Yard Dog 100 in yard work and some and will be replacing the 5301 (under repair) NS MOW.

The EMD GP40 is a 4-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division between November 1965 and December 1971.

DASH 8

Dash-8 CSX #7661 This locomotive is now used for all long distance Outgoing Trains.

The Dash 8 Series is a line of diesel-electric freight locomotives built by GE Transportation. It replaced the Dash 7 Series in the mid-1980s.

CSXT Dash 8-40B Diesel Locomotive  #5943

The GE Dash 8-40B (or B40-8) is a 4-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by GE Transportation between 1988 and 1989. It is part of the GE Dash 8 Series of freight locomotives.

This 4 axle CSX Dash 8-B will help with Operations between Altoona and Garret Yard. All local freight will bw powered by this unit.

A yardmaster is a railroad employee responsible for managing operations within a rail yard, ensuring the efficient movement and storage of freight trains. They oversee the assembly and disassembly of trains, switching tracks, and coordinating with yard crews.

NS# 5301: EMD SD40-2, This unit is currently out of service it is the MOW Power for the Garrett Layout MOW Train.

CSX #7661: Dash-8-40CW, On the Layout, it is used for Incoming #33 and Outgoing #34 Trains.

CSX # 5943: Dash-8 B, This Layout Unit is assigned to Garrett Layout for Operational duties.

RG #5378: is an SD40T-2. On our Layout it is a dummy used for consist.
